APRIL 2011 NEWSLETTER - Part II |
Game Fair Success
We had a fantastic response at the East Anglian Game Fair this year. For example, from about 11.30 Sunday morning to around 4pm we were simply swamped! This is the third year we have been at this Game Fair and we have been in the same spot each year so I do believe that lots of our regular guns just see a visit to our stand as part of going to the show! Our days are selling fast anyway, but we took scores of really good quality leads from guns of all types and pockets. Overall a really great couple of days. It was good fun to see so many friends as well as new faces - although I must admit that by the time Sunday night came, I was ready for bed. Our stand was manned by Trevor Meen and his partner Sheila, who both helped tremendously. Linda was there with our youngest daughter Izzy, and Head Keeper at Hargham Robert Brown was there alongside his wife Lisa. Thank you very much all of you who took time out to come and see us!

Parent & Child Day.......number 2!
Our first Parent and Child Day sold out a month ago. However we have continued to have enquiries so we have decided to open up another day in this format. Hosting is for five parents and five young shots. The date is Monday 19th December at Great Hockham. If you want to join our second Parent & Child day call Philip Milburn on 07802 546175.
Take your son or daughter shooting anyway!
Something else to think about. I met a fellow gun recently who said he had started sharing a peg with his young 13 year old son on regular driven days. He said it was the most fun he has ever had shooting, taking alternative drives each, and being with his son all day. Providing we know for catering purposes, you can share a day with your son or daughter any time you like on any of our
driven days and at no extra cost.

Ladies' Day 2011
It looks like this year there will be enough interest to have a full driven Ladies' Day
We have decided to host the Ladies' Day on Thursday 6th October at our Hargham & Quidenham Estates, which are just off the A11 at Attleborough.
We shoot 9 Guns and there is a special price of £425.00 which includes the VAT. It is intended to be a 150 bird day, but the price is fixed regardless of the bag.
We will provide the transport between the drives and we will also have stuffers/instructors to assist you if you would like. There would be an additional cost of £35.00 which is paid direct to the stuffer/instructor.
The day will startat about 8.45am, a short briefing will take place and then we will head off for the first drive. We normally have two drives and then stop for elevenses in the field. We will then carry on for two more drives before heading back to the lunch hut for lunch.
Ladies' Day Menu
· Tea/Coffee upon arrival with homemade shortbread
· Elevenses, consisting of champagne, sloe gin and canapés
· Poached Salmon with new potatoes and salad
· Raspberry cheesecake
· Cream tea with scones
Depending on how the morning goes, there will be a further two more drives in the afternoon before heading back to the lunch hut for cream teas.
Each Gun will leave with a goody bag. |

Beaters/Pickers-up Fun Evening
This year we are again going to hold an evening of fun for all our Beaters and Pickers-up. It will be held on Friday 17 June at our Hargham lunch hut. Please visit the Quidenham & Hargham/Map & Driections section of our website for directions by clicking here.
All regular Pickers-up and Beaters are welcome, but please could you call me, Philip Milburn, on 07802 546175 anytime to confirm attendance. We will provide free drinks with a fantastic hog roast and all the trimmings. It's just our way of showing our appreciation to those vital people who work so hard for us during the season. Our view is quite clear, without the pickers-up or beaters.......we have NO shoot!!
If you are interested in joining any of our Picking-up or Beating Teams click here.

Want to buy a trained dog for picking up this coming season?
One of our pickers-up has a fabulous trained dog for sale. He is named Remy, is a dark yellow Labrador and is two years old. He will be absolutely good to go ready for the forthcoming season. As you can see from the photo,
he is certainly a great looking dog. If you have any interest just click here to send an email.

Ever fancied a walk-up day?
We have a limited number of walked-up days for woodcock, pheasants and partridges. We need teams of six guns who will be joined by one of our Keepers and two helpers with dogs. Guns are welcome to bring their own dogs as well, of course. We would expect the Guns to see 50-70 birds. There is a fixed price of £900 + VAT regardless of how many birds are shot. Coffee is served on arrival and we provide sloe gin and fizz in the field mid-morning. There is a lunch hut for guns to eat their own food at lunchtime. If you want more information on our walked-up days and our woodcock shooting in general, click here or call me, Philip Milburn, on 07802 546175 anytime. So if you are reasonably fit and you fancy something different then why not see if we can offer you a walked up day at one of our estates. We have already sold most of our available days to existing customers so if you are interested don't wait too long. |
It's not all flat in Norfolk you know!
Some of you will never have shot on any of our Estates, but have received our newsletter because you have simply responded to one of our advertisements or visited us at our stand at a Game Fair. At the last CLA Game Fair we attended I was told by someone who visited our stand "there's no point in going to Norfolk to shoot - it's all so flat isn't it?" Well, the answer, as shown by some of these photos taken on our shoots, is that no, it isn't all flat! Why not come over and have a look? If you want to come and meet the Keepers and see the ground click here or call Philip Milburn on 07802 546175 anytime.

Poults for Sale
Nearly all the birds we rear are released into our own shoots. However we do sell a few, which are now nearly all taken for, but we do have just under 5,000 pheasant poults still available to sell. They can be delivered anytime up to mid-August. If you have shot on our shoots before, you'll know that we have good strong birds that really can fly. If you run a shoot yourself or you know of a shoot that wants some 6-7 week old pheasant poults then click here or call Philip Milburn anytime on 07802 546175.
Duck Flighting
A really successful duck flight needs the right conditions and often we simply don’t know these until very near to the day. We therefore keep a “Late Notice Flighting List” whereby we will contact you once we’re confident conditions are right and giving you the date/s of a proposed flight so you can join us if you are able. If you are interested in joining this list, please click here to visit our website and register your details.

Don't Forget, There's Stalking Too
Don’t forget we offer deer stalking on the Quidenham Estate. We have 5,000 acres of prime land close to Thetford Forest with an abundance of muntjac, roe and red deer including trophy and representative heads. The roe bucks will be rutting in the last two weeks of July and the beginning of August making it a really exciting time to hunt. For those trophy shooters amongst you, we generally see the Red Stags starting to come onto the Estate from August on.
We have several Estate rifles, and at the moment, hire of a rifle is free, and we pay for the ammo. Please contact us for further details and prices for deer stalking.

Hammer Gun Day
Last year we had two Hammer Gun Days and both sold out. Hammer guns are great fun and it's great to see so many fantastic old English Hammer guns that are still being used. If you don't have a Hammer gun, then we can hire you (at a very reasonable price) some really good old English Hammer guns. Do something different! Click here for information by email. |
