Duck Flighting

(Duck Flighting is available at the Hargham & Quidenham Estates and the Great Hockham Estate)

Praise for the duck flighting experience at MG&S:
"Plenty of duck came in so that was pleasing and I shot straight, there was plenty of action to keep me amused. Good see the keepers had been feeding the ponds well. Would like to book another flight for x 2 guns." -
Mr AS, November 2011

At Quidenham we have up to nine duck ponds that can be flighted. All birds are wild. We can take up to six Guns and we usually put two at each pond. Non toxic shot must be used for all Duck & Geese Shooting -
NO lead shot. We charge a fixed fee of £675 + VAT divided equally amongst the Guns. This price is charged regardless of how many birds are shot. We would normally expect a bag of 40-50 but have had bags of over 80 in one flight. The exact number of the bag is hard to determine as generally not all birds will be picked that night as it can be very difficult to find all the quarry in the dark and often in water.

We also shoot over Eccles Carr. This is a large area of water on the Quidenham Estate with a lot of Mallard, Gadwell and Teal as well as many wild Geese. We can cater for up to eight Guns round the Carr at each flight. The fixed charge is £800 + VAT divided equally between the the squad. We have put in paths all round the Carr but it still does get wet in places so please bring appropriate footwear. If you want a really good evening of mixed sport (including wild geese) this won't disappoint!

At Great Hockham we have three ponds. These can provide some good flighting but only for small parties of 3-4 Guns. These are charged at a fixed rate of £300 + VAT. The area is mainly populated by Mallard but some Teal can make it very exciting.

In addition, on some of our full driven days we sometimes incorporate some duck drives. If this is of interest and you have booked a driven day with us, please let us know before the day that you would like us to include a duck drive.

Booking a Duck Flight
We book our driven partridge and pheasant days months in advance. However, duck flighting is very weather dependant. Generally speaking, if the night has a full moon and there is no wind, there will be very little sport that night. We therefore look at the weather forecast for the week ahead each Sunday. The Keepers then decide which nights will be good for flighting and we then contact by Text and Email those Guns who have registered to be in our "Duck Club". A typical message would be: "Duck flight 3/11/11, 4 guns. £110 + VAT per gun. Philip.milburn@btconnect.com, phone/text 07802 546175. You MUST bring non toxic cartridges - NO LEAD!"
