About Us

Philip MilburnPhilip Milburn

Philip enjoyed a successful and busy business career first growing Highway Windscreens (UK) Limited to be a national franchise and after investment by venture capitalists, he then re-purchased the franchise network. He subsequently instigated diversification into commercial and domestic glazing, culminating in the business becoming Highway Glass Limited, the UK's biggest provider of emergency glazing services, working predominately for the insurance industry. Many UK insurance companies came to rely on Highway Glass, and the company eventually had yearly sales of nearly £50m and employed over 800 staff. Highway was acquired by a FTSE 350 company in 2002. Before retiring in December 2006, Philip stayed on in the business in order to oversee its expansion into plumbing and drainage services.

Philip has been shooting for over 35 years primarily in Northumberland and Norfolk despite his business commitments. In 2007, he took over the running of the Great Hockham Shoot and quickly set about learning the necessary skills such as understanding how to best support the Keeper, which plant and equipment to buy, where and how, in order to secure vital cover crop and most critically, what his customers really wanted. A year later, The Hargham and Quidenham Estates Shoot became available and Philip jumped at the opportunity this presented. A staunch supporter of the “Shoot to Eat” principle, Philip ensures that the game served to Shoot guests is from the Estates. The Narford Hall Shoot came under Philip's management in 2009. Offering a mixture of Syndicate and Commercial Let Days, the Shoots are thriving under his leadership.

Philip lives in rural Norfolk with his wife and two daughters. Philip’s wife Linda, despite being busy with her buy-to-let business, is very involved with the Shoots. She frequently attends Shoot days to help entertain guests and is well known to most Syndicate members. Linda also actively shoots and encourages other ladies to join her.

Linda Milburn
Linda Milburn has been involved in businesses with her husband Philip for over 25 years. Linda runs her own fairly sizeable Buy to let residential property business, with houses to rent in East Anglia and London. Up until recently Linda also was involved in running the catering and administration of Milburn Game & Shooting. However, she has now taken up the front facing role of handling bookings for all our driven days for the coming Season. Linda already knows many of our regular guns personally and she always tries to go out with the guns on shoot days when she can.

The Quidenham & Hargham Estates Shoot is operated by Philip Milburn and his daughter Harriet. They are assisted by Robert Brown, the Keeper, across the two Estates.

Hari MilburnHarriet Milburn
After attending Shoots with her father as a child, Harriet developed an interest in the sport and, as time progressed, she has become increasingly interested in the business aspect of the operation in particular. Harriet is a supporter of country pursuits and a keen and talented rider who enjoys hunting.

RobertRobert Brown - Head Keeper
Robert has been the Gamekeeper on the Hargham Estate for 29 years – he knows virtually every blade of grass! He has also been involved with the Quidenham Estate for many years and now has responsibility for both. Robert is an experienced first class all round Keeper. Assisted by his Under Keeper and a team of part time staff, Robert oversees all aspects of the Shoot from the drives, hosting, vermin control, feeding to cover crops. He also runs a loyal and experienced team of beaters and is a constant source of valuable knowledge.

Robert is supported by his wife Lisa, who is an invaluable part of the Hargham & Quidenham shoots.

Danny Burrows
Danny is the underkeeper at the Quidenham & Hargham Estates, as well as the Banham Estate.
Danny first learned about shooting and vermin control from the age of 9 on his father's farm, shooting rats, rabbits etc. wtih a 177 air rifle. He was shooting a shotgun at the age of 11 before leaving school, and he was regularly controlling rabbits and pigeons on local farms most evenings and weekends. On his father's farm, he used to hatch pheasants, duck and partridge under broody hens.
In 1993, he was given the opportunity to help develop a new game shoot on one of the farms where he had already been controlling vermin. This was a great success and became known as Grove Farm Shoot. Most seasons the shoot had 12 driven days with an average 150 birds of pheasant, partridge and duck. All of this was on just 500 acres and would not have been possible without intensive vermin control with extra attention being paid to foxes. He took a special pride in snaring and lamping at night to keep the fox numbers down.
Danny has a wonderfully supportive family consisting of his wife and four children, all of whom like to get involved with helping him. Danny's eldest daughter was born at the early stages of the Grove Farm Shoot so all the family have all grown up around shooting and the countryside. Danny is now in his third season at MGS and he says he is enjoying his position and responsibilities on what he believes is now a nationally well known game shoot. What is certain is that Danny is an extremely important link in a very important team!

Pat McClellan - Keeper at Narford
Following an initial stint in the Army, Pat has dedicated his entire working life to being a Gamekeeper, and is now the headkeeper at the Narford Shoot. He has amassed a huge wealth of experience over the years and is skilled in all aspects of the role from rearing the birds to ensuring the drives and the ground deliver the best possible shooting experience.

Pat is assisted by his very supportive wife Angela who has 14 working dogs and relishes nothing more than spending the day in the field "dogging the birds in". Together they make a great team.
