A Typical Day

A day with Milburn Game & Shooting is not just about great shooting. We recognise our customers are looking for an all round social experience with excellent hospitality. To this end, much time and effort is put into our catering and our food is hand prepared using fresh ingredients either grown or shot on the Estates, or sourced from known and trusted local suppliers accompanied by a range of drinks. For further details on the food and drink we offer please Click Here.

Along with a warm welcome on arrival, you will be served hot tea or coffee along with tasty homemade shortbread. For hungrier teams or those who have travelled a distance, full English cooked breakfasts can be booked in advance at an additional cost of £5 per person.

After coffee or breakfast, a short welcome speech and safety briefing is given by your Host for the day. On completion of the formalities and the drawing of the pegs, the group departs the Lunch Hut for the eagerly awaited first drive. At Great Hockham and Quidenham & Hargham, Guns are transported to the drives in our unique converted Army trucks that allow chat and banter between the Guns. At Narford, the team travel together in the Gun's trailer.

After two drives, elevenses are served in the field comprising sloe gin and fizz or, when the weather is cold, vodka consommé accompanied by hot sausages in mustard sauce. The short break allows time for a little relaxation and discussion before moving on for two further drives before lunch. A Host will accompany the team throughout the day to respond to any questions and to offer assistance wherever necessary.

In the early months of the season until early to mid-November when the nights draw in very early, the main meal of the day is taken at lunch time and it’s a real treat. We serve a hot two course meal and here’s just an example of our menus:

Main courses served with seasonal vegetables and potatoes:
Venison in Port Sauce ~ Shepherd's Pie ~ Roast Pheasant with Walnuts & Grapes
Rib of Beef ~ Roast Partridge with Red Cabbage
Roast Pork and Crackling ~ Roast Mallard in Raspberry Sauce ~ Roast Wild Duck with Orange Sauce

Desserts: Raspberry Cheesecake ~ Eton Mess ~ Pineapple Tart with Chantilly Cream ~ Spicy Butter Apple Tart and Cream
~ Apple Crumble and Vanilla Ice Cream ~ Apple & Blackberry Crumble with Ice Cream ~ Fruit Pavlova

After a final three drives, Guns can chat about the day over tea with toasted buttered teacakes with jam or honey.

In the latter part of the season to maximise the daylight, our lunch time stop is short for a light lunch of soup and a roll and the main meal is served at the end of shooting.

Alternative tastes and dietary requirements can be accommodated on prior notice (click here to complete our enquiry form).
